About SIYC
Founded in the summer of 2017, the Swan’s Island Yacht Club is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organized to provide sailing education and free use of sailing equipment. We promote amateur sailing competition, safe water sports, good sportsmanship, and responsible use of the marine environment by welcoming all who want to share in the beauty and fun of the sea surrounding our beloved island. The SIYC embraces motor and sailboats.
We are based at Trafton’s Wharf in Minturn in Swan’s Island, Maine. In the summer of 2023 we realized our dream of having a dedicated space for our programs at Trafton’s Wharf, separating the commercial wharf operation from recreational use, as we launched our new floats.

Lessons
The SIYC offers free sailing lessons for members and non-members in July and August each year.
The SIYC Junior Sailing Program provides lessons to children 8 to 14 years old on our Optis, as space permits. Each session is limited to 12 students. Reserve a spot now.
Our Adult Lesson Program utilizes our fleet of Mercurys and Bullseyes most Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Reserve a spot now.

Racing
The SIYC offers amateur racing on Sundays during July and August.
Three Regattas are held on Sundays beginning in late July for members of the SIYC, utilizing PHRF to allow all our members’ boats to compete with one another regardless of their size.
The Small Boat Race Series occurs on non-Regatta Sunday afternoons in Burnt Coat Harbor. All sailors of small boats (20’ and under) on Swan’s Island are invited to this informal series.
Membership
The Swan’s Island Yacht Club welcomes all who want to share the beauty and fun of the sea surrounding our beloved island. You don’t need a boat to be a member of the Swan’s Island Yacht Club community, membership is extended to all.
As a 501(C)(3) non-profit with a volunteer workforce, your contributions support free sailing lessons and the maintenance of the fleet. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
Click here to fill out your 2026 SIYC Membership Form. You will also find details on how to submit your annual, tax-deductible donation (including cash, check, Venmo, charitable trust, or bank transfer).

Mercury Sailing Program
The Mercury Sailing Program allows eligible teens and adult members of the SIYC to use the club’s Mercury fleet.
With a Tuna membership or higher and successful completion of a written and on-the-water sailing test, this program will qualify skippers to reserve and take any of our three Mercury 18-foot keelboats for a sail around Burnt Coat Harbor.
